The steppingstone of Sera Jey Monastery.

The Monastery is privileged and fortunate to have a well-established modern School. Around 700 young novice monks of the Monastery attend the school classes on regular basis, where modern academic education from primary to high school level is imparted, like any other modern school in the exiled Tibetan community in India.

It is here, where the young novice on being initiated into the Monastery, are first sent to this school to receive primary & high school education. Besides the benefit of formal academic education, the pupils also have the benefit of Tibetan language, literature & history education at the school level. This has tangible advantage in their pursuance of Monastic course of Buddhist Text & Philosophy.

This privilege of formal school education is a first of its kind in a Monastery and in the history of monastic culture, which the pupils are really fortunate & grateful to avail such a benefit.

The present new Sera Jey Secondary School is founded under the able leadership of Dr. Tenzin Sherab, the school Principal who dedicatedly strived to develop from the one time small primary school to the present - a well-developed modern school, registered & affiliated to CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) of Government of India.

A three-member committee with Principal as the chief executive & administrative head are elected by the Monastery's Governing General Body to administer and manage the School.

The school faculty has the necessary academic, physical & personal development curriculum and activities, and a team of resourceful & dedicated Teachers under the leadership of their visionary Principal.

The school and its pupils have the privilege of high potential to impart & receive modern knowledge & education to the young minds, which is otherwise absent in a monkshood's secluded life. In the short span since its development, the results has been very concrete and encouraging, with good passing percentage in Board exams and in the overall development of the graduating pupils.

On joining the Monastic University after graduating from School, the acquired knowledge on basic general science & humanities and the language of English creates a vital resourceful mind and knowledge in their long journey ahead in the pursuit of Buddhist Text & Philosophy.
